TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Building and optimizing manufacturing systems for rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems with an accent on assembly, avionics, composites, machining, and production quality. Focus on solving complex manufacturing failures, designing test methods and hardware, improving processes with Lean/Six Sigma, and launching new products into production.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. Domestic and international travel may be required. New Zealand roles require nationality checks and eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by U.S. ITAR; eligible citizenship may include Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, European Union, or NATO countries, subject to applicable restrictions.

What you will do

  • Own manufacturing expertise for products, support production goals, and maintain quality.
  • Investigate manufacturing failures, perform engineering analysis, and determine whether parts meet flight standards.
  • Write production procedures, design hardware and test setups, and create test methods for critical systems.
  • Review designs for manufacturability and testability, launch new products into factories, and identify equipment needs.
  • Improve planning, quality tracking, data systems, and manufacturing performance using Lean and Six Sigma methods.
  • Mentor technicians and newer engineers while leading projects with minimal oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 0–5 years of technical experience in manufacturing, production, or process engineering.
  • Hands-on experience solving problems in complex manufacturing systems and foundational knowledge of complex manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to deliver complex assignments autonomously, communicate clearly, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant discipline experience in assembly and integration, avionics and testing, composites, or machining.
  • For New Zealand employment, eligibility to access ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required, with nationality checks completed before an offer.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing experience.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge and cross-discipline manufacturing experience.
  • ERP or PLM experience, including Siemens Teamcenter or Infor LN.
  • Production quality metrics and environmental or production acceptance testing experience.
  • Instrumentation, interfaces, and sensor knowledge.
