Analytics Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Cape Town, South Africa; hybrid working model

What you will do

• Work with stakeholders, data engineers, and BI analysts to turn data into information for business decisions.
• Develop, implement, support, and tune enterprise data warehouses, data marts, and business intelligence reporting environments.
• Design and implement reporting and analytical solutions from business and functional requirements.
• Maintain the Kappa and Lambda event-driven architecture built on BigQuery, Dataform, and Looker.
• Maintain efficient data pipelines and support infrastructure, including bug fixes, operational support, and performance improvements.
• Automate data extraction and report updates, validate data integrity, cleanse data, and optimize multidimensional data models.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, plus at least 3 years of software or technology experience; equivalent candidates need at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• 4–6 years of related experience, including at least 4 years of SQL experience.
• At least 2 years of experience with BI reporting tools such as QlikView, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or Looker.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, Linux, operating systems, and networking.
• Experience with large datasets and business models, OLAP and multidimensional cube design, cloud architecture and operations, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Solutions-oriented approach, strong problem-solving skills, ownership, accountability, and the ability to deliver quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• 1–2 years of coding experience in Python and JavaScript.
• Experience with Looker, BigQuery, Dataform, Google Cloud or another cloud provider, Domain-Driven Design, and Scrum or Agile methodologies.
• Retail or e-commerce industry experience.
