Sr. Technologist – AI Systems & Performance Lab (AI)

Location: Milpitas Office, Milpitas, California, United States; onsite work required.

Salary: $179,733–$297,770 per year.

What you will do

• Establish and lead the AI Systems & Performance Lab, defining its technical vision, research agenda, methodologies, and success metrics.
• Analyze end-to-end AI training and inference workloads across models, frameworks, runtimes, hardware, and system software.
• Identify and root-cause bottlenecks across compute, memory hierarchy, interconnects, storage, power, and software layers.
• Architect benchmarking, profiling, and workload-characterization frameworks for heterogeneous CPU, GPU, NPU, and custom accelerator platforms.
• Translate performance findings into recommendations for hardware, platform, system architecture, silicon, product, and business roadmaps.
• Mentor a small team and represent the lab in technical reviews, architecture forums, executive briefings, publications, and patent activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; a Master’s degree or PhD is strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of industry experience in systems engineering, AI infrastructure, performance engineering, computer architecture, or hardware/software co-design.
• Hands-on experience with AI training or inference workloads and modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Strong understanding of compute architectures, memory hierarchy, interconnects, storage, software stacks, and heterogeneous systems.
• Experience translating complex technical analysis into architectural recommendations and business-relevant insights.
• Director-level technical influence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead with limited direct reports.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI accelerators, compiler stacks, runtimes, and low-level performance analysis tools.
• Background in benchmarking, profiling, workload characterization, and custom tool or framework development.
• Technical thought leadership through patents, publications, standards contributions, or widely adopted internal frameworks.
• Experience influencing platform, system, or silicon roadmaps in highly matrixed hardware and software organizations.
