Staff Data Engineer (AI)

Location: US Remote — Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California; hybrid candidates may also be considered, with possible on-site interviews during the final hiring stages.

Salary: $165,000–$250,000 per year, with possible bonuses, commissions, or other compensation.

What you will do

• Own the architecture, scalability, security, and reliability of the data platform across Hevo, Estuary, BigQuery, and dbt.
• Build batch and CDC ingestion pipelines from operational databases, SaaS applications, and ERP systems.
• Lead through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, mentorship, and technical standards as a senior individual contributor.
• Establish testing, monitoring, alerting, incident response, governance, access controls, and auditability for trusted data operations.
• Develop Python APIs, automated jobs, and internal tools, including foundations for agentic analytics and MCP connections.
• Evaluate lakehouse patterns, open table formats, and alternative query engines through hands-on proofs of concept.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production data platforms and pipelines, with staff- or senior-level technical leadership experience.
• Deep hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, dbt, and modern ingestion tooling.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, with experience in version control, CI/CD, testing, serverless compute, storage, and secrets management on GCP or AWS.
• Experience developing with Claude Code or a similar AI coding agent.
• Ability to design for scale, failure, governance, observability, and change while clearly communicating architectural trade-offs.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; hirify.global uses E-Verify.
