Onboard Software Engineer - Deployment & Runtime Environments (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Toulouse, Occitanie, France. Relocation assistance to Toulouse may be available.

hirify.global develops and operates satellite platforms and the onboard software powering its fleet and customer workloads in low Earth orbit.

What you will do

• Evolve the bundle management tool that resolves dependencies and assembles mission-specific software stacks.
• Develop and harden onboard Linux infrastructure, including service deployment, execution management, and failure recovery.
• Build and maintain the Runtime Container Environment, including the container manager, base images, and container registry service.
• Scale deployment pipelines as new hardware platforms and satellite programs are added.
• Contribute to Product Validation and validate software readiness before deployment to orbit.
• Design, implement, review, and deliver software features with a high degree of ownership.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or similar runtimes.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals, including boot processes, service management, filesystem layout, and failure recovery.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Experience with embedded or resource-constrained systems.
• Working knowledge of Python.

Nice to have

• Experience with deployment strategies for critical or hard-to-reach systems, including golden images, A/B partitions, staged rollouts, OTA updates, and safe rollback.
• C++ knowledge or familiarity with Go, Rust, or CUE.
• Experience with embedded Linux technologies such as Yocto, device trees, systemd, and Linux on ARM.
• Proficiency with unit testing frameworks such as pytest, Googletest, or Unity.
• Experience with middleware frameworks such as gRPC or ZMQ/NATS.
