Chief Technology Officer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, United Kingdom, or Kenya; working hours must overlap between US Eastern Time and East African Time. Preference is given to candidates near the New York, London, or Nairobi office hubs. Approximately 4–6 trips per year are expected, including visits to countries of operation.

Total compensation: US $366,000–$518,000 annually; UK £225,000–£317,000 annually; Kenya $333,000–$467,000 annually. Compensation includes base salary, performance bonus, and annual benefits stipend.

What you will do

• Define the technology vision, target stack, architecture, platforms, build-versus-buy strategy, and technical investment portfolio for a $5B+ annual operation.
• Oversee the new cash delivery stack, legacy-system stabilization and migration, fundraising products, the global emergency cash system, enterprise technology, internal tooling, platform, and cybersecurity.
• Build and grow the technology organization across engineering, product, data, security, infrastructure, and enterprise systems, expanding engineering from approximately 15 to 30 people.
• Set technical direction and quality standards for integrations, data, security, reliability, technical debt, transaction volume, and geographic expansion.
• Lead technology strategy as a member of the executive team, partnering with the CEO, VP Product, finance, risk, data, country, and functional leaders.
• Apply AI to improve engineering productivity and organizational capability while establishing appropriate tools, goals, culture, and safeguards.

Requirements

• Proven success hiring, developing, managing, and retaining engineering talent and leaders.
• Strong technical judgment in architecture, system design, build-versus-buy decisions, integrations, data, security, reliability, and technical debt.
• Business judgment and decisiveness when balancing speed, reliability, security, cost, technical quality, flexibility, and user impact.
• Experience moving an engineering organization from AI experimentation to measured, practical adoption.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States, United Kingdom, or Kenya with overlap between US Eastern Time and East African Time.

• Experience in fintech, payments, humanitarian response, or global development.
• Experience with financial controls, fraud risk, identity systems, or sensitive recipient data.
