What you will do
- Assemble custom, delicate mechanical and electro-optical systems with tight tolerances.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and physically tune complex mechanical hardware.
- Use and maintain 3D printers, laser cutters, tools, and other laboratory equipment.
- Create simple brackets, enclosures, boxes, and mounting hardware using Inventor CAD.
- Perform light manual machining, component modification, and custom fixture fabrication.
- Collaborate with quantum scientists, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers to build, test, and improve hardware concepts.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on mechanical craftsmanship and intuition for precision hardware.
- Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical assemblies and working with custom or low-volume prototypes.
- Ability to work carefully with ultra-delicate assemblies and improve build and assembly standards.
- Experience using mechanical tools and equipment; capability to perform basic machining and fabrication.
Nice to have
- Experience assembling or maintaining ultra-high-vacuum systems, including clean assembly protocols, bake-outs, or helium leak detection.
- Hands-on experience in optics or laser laboratories, including optics, fibres, or laser safety.
- Experience collaborating with scientists or research physicists in an academic or industrial R&D environment.
