TL;DR
Senior Composite Engineer (Aerospace): Developing, verifying, and qualifying primary and secondary composite structures for space applications with an accent on structural mechanics, materials and process qualification, and flight-quality hardware. Focus on finite element analysis, failure-mode mitigation, supplier oversight, structural testing, and analysis-to-test correlation across the hardware lifecycle.

Location: Munich, Germany. Relocation assistance is provided, including visa sponsorship where applicable.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, development, verification, and qualification of primary and secondary composite structural hardware for space applications.
  • Define structural concepts and evaluate trade-offs involving reliability, mass, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
  • Develop specifications for structural requirements, materials, manufacturing, inspection, and verification.
  • Assess critical failure modes and implement mitigation measures across the product lifecycle.
  • Review supplier analyses, manufacturing and inspection documentation, test reports, and non-conformance dispositions.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, manufacturing, AIT, quality, procurement, program teams, and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in structural analysis and mechanical justification of aerospace, space, or other high-performance composite structures.
  • Experience designing, developing, verifying, and qualifying composite structures.
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes, structural mechanics, and damage tolerance.
  • Proficiency in finite element modelling and simulation for static, buckling, dynamic, thermo-mechanical, and joint analyses, preferably using Altair and Nastran.
  • Fluent English is required. German, French, or Italian is an asset.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Siemens NX CAD software.
  • Experience with bolted and bonded joints, load introduction, and composite interface justification.
