Head, Product Control & Accounting (Fintech)

What you will do

• Act as the technical accounting partner for Product and Engineering across new products, features, and pricing changes.
• Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers covering revenue recognition, financial instruments, fee income, and interest income.
• Design and maintain the chart of accounts and map customer journeys, product events, and transaction flows to the appropriate GL treatment.
• Review product and engineering specifications before launch to identify accounting and control gaps.
• Own reconciliation between product or transaction systems and the general ledger, resolving breaks at source.
• Design maker-checker, reconciliation, exception-handling, and audit-standard controls, while partnering with Financial Control, Internal Audit, and external auditors.

Requirements

• ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification with 8+ years of post-qualification experience.
• Background in Big Four technical accounting or audit.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS 15, IFRS 9, and IFRS more broadly.
• Experience translating product or system designs into accounting treatment and GL structures.
• Ability to read product specifications and work directly with engineers and product managers.
• Ability to document accounting treatments, maintain a living chart of accounts, and design effective controls.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, or banking, including transaction or ledger systems.
• Experience designing or restructuring a chart of accounts for a multi-product platform.
• Exposure to regulatory reporting requirements such as CBN, FCA, CBK, or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience working within or alongside an agile product or engineering team.
