What you will do
- Build, assemble, maintain, and operate test rigs, fixtures, and support equipment for R1 reactor components and subsystems.
- Install instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, strain gauges, flow meters, relays, solenoid valves, and electrical wiring.
- Configure data acquisition systems, sensors, and control hardware, then execute tests according to established procedures.
- Document test conditions, results, anomalies, operator observations, configurations, calibrations, hardware changes, and run logs.
- Fabricate brackets, mount points, plumbing, wiring harnesses, and mechanical components while troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
- Support test engineers with test campaigns, procedure improvements, failure investigations, procurement, receiving, and organization of test hardware.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a test technician, engineering technician, lab technician, or in a similar technical role.
- Experience assembling mechanical systems, test fixtures, or prototype hardware and integrating instrumentation.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems, basic test software, engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, hand-tool and shop-tool experience, and the ability to work safely around high-energy systems and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends when necessary, lift 50 pounds, and perform standing, climbing, bending, grasping, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
Nice to have
- Experience with plumbing systems, tubing, valves, fittings, brazing, and leak checking.
- Experience with electrical wiring, harness building, relays, control panels, and hardware debugging.
- Familiarity with inspection tools, CAD or CAD viewers, Python, scripting, welding, machining, or fabrication.
- Experience building and operating test rigs in R&D, prototype, or fast-paced hardware development environments.
