Community Engagement Manager (Data Centres, Australia)

Location: Sydney, Australia; remote-friendly within Australia, with staff expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time. Based in Australia or willing to relocate there; regular regional travel of up to 50% and occasional travel to other data centre markets is required.

What you will do

• Build sustained relationships with local councils, government agencies, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners.
• Develop and execute community engagement strategies across data centre site selection, pre-development, construction, and operations.
• Host education and listening sessions, public forums, town halls, planning hearings, and community events.
• Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising internal teams on risks, opportunities, and engagement strategy.
• Coordinate charitable donations, community investment, economic development commitments, and nonprofit partnerships.
• Create a scalable community engagement playbook and repeatable processes for future infrastructure markets.

Requirements

• Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local council or state government, or a related field.
• Direct experience engaging local councils and state governments on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
• Strong relationship-building, coalition-building, written communication, verbal communication, and public representation skills.
• Ability to explain complex operational plans in clear language and manage multiple engagements independently.
• Based in Australia or willing to relocate to Australia, with regular regional travel.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of community engagement experience involving data centres, utilities, energy, large-scale industrial infrastructure, or local government.
• Familiarity with land use, zoning, and planning approval processes.
• Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs.
• Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organisations.
• Experience collaborating with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams.
