Community Engagement Manager (AI Data Centres)

Location: Australia, with a remote-friendly setup; staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time. Based in Australia or willing to relocate there, with regular travel across the region of up to 50% and occasional travel to other data centre markets.

What you will do

• Build sustained relationships with local councils, state governments, community organisations, economic development partners, educational institutions, and workforce organisations.
• Develop and execute community engagement strategies across data centre site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations.
• Host education sessions, listening sessions, town halls, planning hearings, and community events while representing Anthropic in public forums and local media.
• Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising Policy, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Communications, Energy, and Sustainability teams on risks and opportunities.
• Coordinate charitable donations, community investment, economic development commitments, and relationships with not-for-profit partners.
• Build a scalable community engagement playbook and repeatable processes for future infrastructure markets.

Requirements

• Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local council, state government, or a related field.
• Direct experience engaging local councils and state governments on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
• Strong relationship-building, coalition-building, written communication, verbal communication, and public representation skills.
• Ability to explain complex operational plans in plain language, work independently, and manage multiple engagements across different markets.
• Based in Australia or willing to relocate there, with regular regional travel required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and/or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of community engagement experience involving data centres, utilities, energy, large-scale industrial infrastructure, or local government.
• Familiarity with land use, zoning, and local or regional planning approval processes.
• Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs and relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organisations.
• Experience collaborating with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams.
