Analog IC Design Engineer, Tech Lead (Silicon Photonics)

Location: Mountain View, California, or Toronto, Ontario. Flexible hybrid workplace model.

Salary: $230,000–$270,000 USD annually, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Design high-performance, high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits for transceivers and broadband interfaces connected to silicon photonics elements.
• Investigate analog and mixed-signal circuit topologies with chip architects.
• Lead cross-functional work across system, digital, analog, and photonics teams to define block specifications, mixed-signal implementations, and behavioral models.
• Document simulations and verification results for formal design reviews, and drive block-level floorplans and mask design reviews.
• Run post-layout and mixed-signal top-level simulations, define production and bench-level test plans, and validate circuit performance in the lab.
• Mentor junior design engineers.

Requirements

• MS with 12+ years of industry experience or Ph.D. with 10+ years of industry experience designing GHz-speed RF or broadband analog circuits.
• Experience designing analog front-end blocks for SerDes and deep understanding of Tx/Rx equalization techniques and circuits.
• Strong knowledge of CMOS device characteristics, noise, linearity, high-frequency circuit theory, and design trade-offs.
• Experience working with system and architecture teams to define block-level and IP requirements.
• Experience with analog mixed-signal modeling and performance evaluation using tools such as SystemVerilog, MATLAB, Python, or Verilog-AMS.
• Experience with 3D electromagnetic simulation tools and leading or mentoring junior engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience designing transceiver analog front-end circuits such as trans-impedance amplifiers and Tx drivers.
• Experience interfacing with silicon photonic modulators, including MZM and ring modulators.
• Hands-on experience with advanced CMOS technologies such as FinFET.
• Track record of delivering analog or mixed-signal IP successfully on the first attempt while meeting tight schedules.
