Data Engineer (IoT): Building scalable data pipelines that transform behavioural, location, health, manufacturing, and product data from connected cattle collars and related systems into reliable insights with an accent on data modelling, streaming ingestion, and data quality. Focus on optimising billions of daily events, designing observable and testable infrastructure, and collaborating with machine learning, product, and platform teams.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; office-first, with working from the office every day as the default

What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines from source systems to actionable insights.
- Define data models, schemas, abstractions, and infrastructure that scale with the business.
- Partner with machine learning, product, and platform teams to make data accessible, accurate, and timely.
- Build validation, monitoring, alerting, and testing practices that protect data quality and system reliability.
- Improve CI/CD workflows and infrastructure patterns for data systems, including work with AI coding tools.
- Support other engineers through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and maintaining data pipelines for mission-critical systems.
- Solid understanding of batch and streaming patterns, data modelling, transformation, orchestration, and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS; uses Athena, S3, Kinesis, SQS, and SNS.
- Ability to build systems that are observable, testable, reliable, and easy to debug.
- Product-minded approach, pragmatic decision-making in ambiguous environments, and strong collaboration skills.
- Passion for engineering, curiosity, impact, and continuous learning.
