System Engineer - Virtualization (Kubernetes): Designing and operating a highly available Harvester- and Kubernetes-based virtualization platform for large-scale email services with an accent on distributed storage, automation, and VM-to-Kubernetes interoperability. Focus on building scalable clusters, tuning performance, automating lifecycle management, and responding to infrastructure incidents across data centers.
Location: Karlsruhe / Munich, Germany; home office options and flexible working hours are available. Relocation service is offered if you live outside Germany.

What you will do
- Design, implement, and operate a Harvester- and Kubernetes-based virtualization platform.
- Integrate distributed storage and manage compute resources across clusters.
- Automate provisioning, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and monitoring with Ansible, GitOps pipelines, and APIs.
- Perform migrations, benchmarking, performance tuning, and incident response across virtualization environments.
- Collaborate with platform, networking, and storage teams to deliver reliable infrastructure services.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with virtualization and Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Harvester, KubeVirt, QEMU/KVM, Proxmox, VMware, or similar.
- Experience with Kubernetes ecosystems, including Helm, CNI, CSI, CRDs, and GitOps workflows.
- Knowledge of distributed storage systems, especially Longhorn or Ceph.
- Proficiency with Linux systems, debugging, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Automation experience with Bash, Ansible, Python, Puppet, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
