TL;DR
APAC Trade Compliance Lead (Export and Import Compliance): Managing export control and import compliance operations across key Asia sites, including Hong Kong, China, and Malaysia, with an accent on licensing, sanctions screening, classification, customs, and regulatory risk mitigation. Focus on implementing global trade compliance programs, conducting audits and training, optimizing duties through special trade programs, and coordinating US EAR, ITAR, and sanctions requirements across regional functions.

What you will do

  • Manage export licensing, end-use and end-user screening, sanctions checks, and export control classifications across Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Japan, and Thailand.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of regional global trade compliance programs, including internal controls, audits, gap assessments, corrective actions, and training.
  • Advise Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales, IT, and other business functions on export and import compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate regional implementation of US EAR, ITAR, sanctions, ECCN, jurisdiction, foreign direct product, and re-export requirements.
  • Supervise import compliance activities including HS/HTS classification, country of origin, customs valuation, import licensing, audits, and regulatory determinations.
  • Identify duty-saving opportunities through FTZ utilization, bonded manufacturing, duty drawbacks, and other special trade programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in law, international business, supply chain, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of export control experience covering Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and the APAC region.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.
  • Proven proficiency in export control and import compliance activities, with strong analytical, risk mitigation, communication, and regulatory advisory skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced global environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with Global Trade Management or ERP-based compliance tools.

Nice to have

  • Experience with US export controls under EAR, ITAR, and sanctions regulations.
  • Work experience in a prestigious law firm or consulting firm.
