TL;DR
Senior Data Scientist (AI): Designing, developing, and deploying generative and predictive machine learning capabilities for US Government applications with an accent on agentic workflows, LLM fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation. Focus on building prototypes and generalized production solutions, managing ML data pipelines and algorithm lifecycles, and translating complex AI/ML concepts for government customers.

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; flexible hybrid work with offices in Reston, VA and Austin, TX. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain required U.S. government authorizations.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and deploy machine learning algorithms and prototype solutions for U.S. Government customers.
  • Build generative and predictive AI capabilities, including agentic workflows, LLM fine-tuning, RAG, and multimodal applications.
  • Design and manage machine learning data pipelines and algorithm lifecycles.
  • Research agentic integrations and cutting-edge machine learning technologies for government use cases.
  • Design tests for algorithm effectiveness and performance monitoring, coordinating data collection and annotation for supervised training.
  • Engage customers and subject-matter experts, support pre-sales efforts, and translate AI/ML concepts into practical language.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science preferred, with a strong machine learning background.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience with generative AI concepts such as RAG, prompt engineering, agents, structured output, multimodal LLMs, and embedding models.
  • Knowledge of machine learning tools and frameworks including scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Spark MLlib, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Pydantic, and Transformers.
  • Experience with or in the DoD, U.S. Intelligence Community, or U.S. Federal Civilian agencies; active U.S. security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain one required, with Top Secret and SCI eligibility highly preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Java and HTML.
  • Familiarity with OpenAI, GraphQL, FastAPI, Pinecone, FAISS, OpenSearch, and Neo4j.
  • Experience with active learning, reinforcement learning, or machine teaching.
