Backend Developer (Kotlin) in Kazakhstan

Location: Hybrid work in Almaty, Kazakhstan

What you will do

• Develop and maintain scalable microservices for a next-generation business banking mobile application.
• Optimize PostgreSQL databases, SQL queries, indexes, and complex data operations.
• Configure monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and Micrometer.
• Handle deployment and infrastructure management using Docker and related tooling.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor colleagues, and design system architecture from scratch.
• Support the migration of corporate clients from the legacy banking platform to the new solution.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong Kotlin and Java skills, including coroutines, Flow, collections, generics, and Stream API.
• Deep understanding of multithreading, JVM internals, garbage collection, memory models, and performance tuning.
• Advanced experience with Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Data, transaction management, AOP, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and REST API design.
• Practical experience with Docker, advanced Git workflows, microservices architecture, automated testing, JUnit or Kotest, MockK, and Testcontainers.
• English: Intermediate+ or above.

Nice to have

• Experience with Liquibase or Flyway, Redis, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed tracing.
• Knowledge of reactive programming, Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT, distributed transactions, and consistency patterns.
• Experience with database scaling, event-driven architecture, contract testing, or Camunda BPM.
• Background in fintech or banking systems.
