TL;DR
Senior Technical Writer (AI/InsurTech): Creating developer- and user-facing documentation for insurance SaaS products, including API documentation, integration guides, tutorials, workflows, and release notes with an accent on OpenAPI specifications, data models, and insurance distribution processes. Focus on validating YAML/JSON schemas, structuring Docs-as-Code workflows, and translating complex technical features into clear documentation for developers and regulated-industry users.
Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid schedule with four days in the office and one remote day. Candidates must reside in the Austin area.
Salary: $125,000–$166,000 USD annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do
- Create and maintain API documentation, integration guides, plugin documentation, developer tutorials, technical workflows, and release notes.
- Document insurance product features, data models, integration patterns, API endpoints, and error handling.
- Read, interpret, and validate OpenAPI specifications in YAML and JSON formats.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineers, Solutions teams, and subject matter experts to gather and clarify technical information.
- Maintain documentation quality, architecture, navigation, clarity, accuracy, and usability.
- Manage documentation projects from intake through publication in a Git-based Docs-as-Code environment.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of technical writing experience focused on software or technical platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience documenting InsurTech or insurance-adjacent SaaS products in regulated industries.
- Experience writing API and developer documentation for SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products.
- Strong knowledge of OpenAPI, YAML, JSON, Docs-as-Code workflows, GitHub/GitLab or GitBook, and Markdown.
- Strong information architecture, developer experience, Agile collaboration, SME interviewing, communication, and project management skills. A portfolio with work samples is required.
Nice to have
- Experience documenting HealthTech or FinTech SaaS products in regulated industries.
- Familiarity with AI- or ML-powered SaaS, agentic workflows, model outputs, or AI-assisted automation.
- Experience with documentation platforms beyond GitBook.
- UX/UI writing experience and experience in high-growth SaaS.
