TL;DR
Senior/Incident Response Specialist - AV Development (GPSSC) (Autonomous Vehicles/Incident Response): Leading real-time incident response and end-to-end case resolution for GM’s autonomous vehicle testing fleet with an accent on safety-critical event triage, operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional coordination. Focus on serving as Incident Commander, troubleshooting complex AV issues, briefing executives, preserving evidence, and improving incident response tools, workflows, and playbooks.

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates living within the specified radius of a GM hub in Milford, Michigan, or San Francisco, California, are expected to report onsite three times a week. Travel required: less than 25%. This role is not eligible for relocation benefits.

Salary: $80,000–$140,700 per year, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Serve as Incident Commander for high-severity and fleet-impacting autonomous vehicle events.
  • Coordinate escalation, responder mobilization, investigation, resolution, and incident documentation.
  • Review collisions, safety-critical events, and operational anomalies across the AV testing fleet.
  • Partner with software, hardware, safety, and systems engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and identify root causes.
  • Align Engineering, Operations, Safety, Legal, Communications, and Executive stakeholders during incidents.
  • Improve incident response tools, workflows, playbooks, training, records, and regulatory reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Understanding of incident response frameworks and best practices.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading high-severity, cross-functional incident response as an Incident Commander or in a similar role for the senior level.
  • Experience in autonomous vehicle operations or a complex transportation or regulated industry.
  • Ability to remain calm, structured, and precise during fast-moving escalations.
  • Experience briefing executives on technical issues, impacts, and recommended actions.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation; candidates must already have U.S. work authorization, as immigration sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Degree in Emergency Management, Operations, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience handling legal, law-enforcement, and regulatory communications.
  • NIMS/ICS, ITIL Incident Management, or equivalent certification.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with Looker or a similar platform.
  • Experience administering or improving ServiceNow, PagerDuty, or equivalent incident management platforms.
