TL;DR
Communities and Social Performance Specialist (Mining): Supporting stakeholder engagement, social due diligence, compliance monitoring, and community relations across mineral exploration and development projects with an accent on Indigenous engagement, social risk management, and responsible mining standards. Focus on conducting social impact assessments, tracking community obligations and commitments, coordinating land access and compensation processes, and integrating social performance into field-based project planning.
Location: Remote; candidates can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada. Legal authorization to work in the United States or Canada is required. The role includes approximately 6–10 weeks of travel to remote field sites per year.

What you will do
- Support stakeholder engagement with communities, Indigenous peoples, traditional authorities, local governments, civil society organizations, and government agencies.
- Plan and participate in community consultations, information sessions, multi-stakeholder forums, and Indigenous and First Nations engagement activities.
- Conduct social due diligence and support social baseline studies, social impact assessments, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
- Track social obligations, commitments, compensation processes, community development programs, compliance evidence, and reporting across jurisdictions.
- Support permitting, land access, exploration agreements, consultation protocols, and compensation negotiations.
- Develop social performance procedures and tools, train non-specialist staff, and coordinate with geology, operations, security, and health and safety teams.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in social performance, community relations, or stakeholder engagement within mining, energy, agriculture, or infrastructure.
- Experience working with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or other Indigenous communities.
- Experience conducting social due diligence, social impact assessments, or human rights due diligence.
- Strong data collection, social monitoring, documentation, and report-writing skills.
- Strong listening skills, cultural awareness, integrity, and the ability to build trust across cultures and power differentials.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States or Canada and willingness to travel to remote field sites for approximately 6–10 weeks per year.
Nice to have
- Fluency in French.
- Knowledge of IFC Performance Standards, ICMM Mining Principles, Equator Principles, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, or the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
- Experience with stakeholder relationship management or grievance-tracking databases, GIS, mapping tools, or Resettlement Action Plans.
