TL;DR
Senior Accountant (Finance & Compliance): Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing financial statements, reconciliations, tax filings, payroll reviews, and audit materials with an accent on technical accounting, compliance, and reporting accuracy. Focus on managing multi-area accounting processes, resolving complex financial issues independently, and coordinating with auditors, tax authorities, banks, and internal stakeholders.
Location: Gulu, Northern Region, Uganda; hybrid working model

What you will do
- Prepare accurate journal entries, accruals, prepayments, vendor bills, customer invoices, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare complete balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for external reporting and annual audits.
- Review management reports, trend analyses, cost centers, and profit centers to support business decisions.
- Review payroll and cloud team payouts while ensuring compliance with tax, labor, and industry regulations.
- Coordinate audit preparation, working papers, reconciliations, findings, and communication between auditors and senior management.
- Manage corporation tax, payroll tax, withholding tax, and VAT obligations while supporting internal controls and budgeting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit support.
- Deep knowledge of periodic financial reporting, account reconciliations, accounting systems, and period-close tools.
- Working knowledge of corporation tax, payroll tax, withholding tax, and VAT requirements.
- Ability to resolve complex accounting issues independently, lead multiple projects, and communicate with banks, tax authorities, auditors, suppliers, and partners.
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or a local equivalent is preferred.

- Experience with accounting systems or ERP platforms in multi-entity or multi-country environments.
- Experience with payroll administration and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior accounting colleagues.
