Firmware Engineer (Robotics)

Building commercially scalable and safe hirify.global robots, including the HMND-01 Alpha platform for industrial pilots.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for microcontrollers, including sensor sampling, input handling, status indication, and power management.
• Integrate sensors and peripherals such as encoders, IMUs, ToF sensors, LiDARs, cameras, and LCD displays, including writing device drivers.
• Integrate device-level firmware with ESP32, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, and Linux-based compute platforms.
• Design interfaces between hardware subsystems using I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, USB, CAN, EtherCAT, MIPI, and related protocols.
• Bring up and debug new PCB revisions by reviewing schematics, using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD, and resolving cross-disciplinary integration issues.
• Develop calibration, power-sequencing, fault-detection, OTA update, and image-provisioning systems for embedded device fleets.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 4+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Professional experience with C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Hands-on experience with ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, and NVIDIA Jetson platforms.
• Experience integrating sensors and peripherals, including encoders, IMUs, ToF sensors, LiDARs, cameras, and display modules.
• Strong understanding of embedded communication and sensor interfaces, including I2C, SPI, MIPI, UART, Ethernet/TCP-IP, USB, CAN, and EtherCAT.
• Experience debugging hardware revisions with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD, and collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers.

Nice to have

• FPGA experience.
• Camera synchronization or multi-sensor time synchronization experience.
• Python skills for tooling, test scripts, or diagnostics.
• Experience defining and using formal hardware interfaces shared across teams.
