TL;DR
Game Mathematician (Freelance) (iGaming): Designing and validating slot-game mathematical models, including paytables, reel strips, feature probabilities, RTP, volatility, and maximum win, with an accent on probability theory, combinatorics, and large-scale simulation. Focus on building implementation specifications, verifying math engines, preparing certification documentation, and analysing live game performance.
What you will do
- Design slot-game math models covering paytables, reel strips, weights, feature probabilities, RTP, hit rate, volatility, maximum win, and maximum exposure.
- Run simulations of 100M+ spins and iterate models until gameplay matches the intended design.
- Translate game concepts into implementation-ready mathematical specifications and propose new concepts.
- Validate math-engine implementations, investigate discrepancies, and support troubleshooting.
- Prepare documentation for GLI, BMM, and iTech Labs certification and support the certification process.
- Support released models, analyse live-performance data, and improve future designs.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on slot-math experience and 3–5 years of overall experience.
- Strong probability theory and combinatorics skills, including deriving distributions analytically.
- Python for simulation and analysis, with NumPy, pandas, SciPy, or equivalent tools.
- Advanced Excel skills for building and reverse-checking par sheets, using pivots, and validating simulation output against closed-form mathematics.
- Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience supported by a strong portfolio.
- English at B2+ level for writing specifications, certification documentation, and communicating with labs and partners.
Nice to have
- Experience with table-game or bingo mathematics.
- C++ or another compiled language for work close to the math engine.
- Familiarity with MGA, UKGC, Ontario, GLI standards, and responsible-gaming constraints.
- SQL or BI tools for live-performance analysis.
- Experience using AI models to validate derivations, simulations, par sheets, and math specifications.
