Database Engineer (MariaDB/MySQL)

Location: Onsite at the i-City office in Shah Alam, Malaysia; prolonged standby hours may be required.

What you will do

• Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade database management systems and related software.
• Automate database deployments, maintenance procedures, data purging, defragmentation, migrations, and routine operational workflows.
• Monitor and optimize database performance using tools such as New Relic and AWS CloudWatch.
• Design, test, and maintain automated backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery processes.
• Manage database security and access controls, including automated auditing and reporting for regulatory and data-privacy compliance.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and data-integrity issues, maintain database documentation, and collaborate with IT staff on database system design and legacy workflow replacement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Ability to work onsite at the i-City office in Shah Alam and provide prolonged standby support when required.
• 1–3 years of experience in database administration or a related field, with a focus on process automation.
• Foundational knowledge of DBMS and data technologies such as MariaDB, MySQL, SQL Server, Redshift, Timestream, Cassandra, Flink, Kafka, or Redis.
• Knowledge of database security, access control, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, high availability, and performance monitoring.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
