TL;DR
UX Designer, Octopus (Aerospace/Enterprise Software): Researching and designing internal enterprise tools for Octopus, an operating system that connects spacecraft manufacturing, inventory, scheduling, quality, assembly, and analytics with an accent on operational workflows, information-dense interfaces, and design systems. Focus on observing factory-floor users, reducing clicks and errors, prototyping high-density tools for technicians and engineers, and ensuring high-quality implementation.
Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA. In-person collaboration is expected at the Playa Vista office.

What you will do
- Research and define UX strategy for Octopus, the internal operating system for spacecraft manufacturing.
- Observe factory-floor and engineering workflows and translate findings into user-focused design solutions.
- Design and optimize tools for inventory, production scheduling, work instructions, quality, supply chain, integration, testing, and analytics.
- Create experience flows, mockups, prototypes, high-fidelity visuals, and design presentations.
- Build and maintain the Octopus design system, UX standards, and guidelines.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, manufacturing and quality teams, supply chain, and production leadership through implementation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent project experience demonstrated through a portfolio.
- 5+ years of experience designing interactive web applications.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong UX, design sensibility, and user-centered storytelling.
- Experience designing enterprise, internal, or operational tools used under time pressure.
- Experience with contextual inquiry, shadowing, usability testing, and other design research methods.
- Experience building and maintaining design systems, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience designing manufacturing, MES, ERP, logistics, or other operations software.
- Ability to read component libraries, prototype in HTML/CSS, or work directly with front-end code.
- Interest in hardware, aerospace, or physical production environments.
