TL;DR
Staff Software Quality Safety Operations Specialist (AI/Autonomous Vehicles): Building scalable safety triage, machine learning operations, and quality assurance workflows for the Waymo Driver with an accent on human-in-the-loop ML, generative AI, and dataset quality. Focus on decomposing complex safety workflows, validating ML models, detecting edge cases and emerging risks, and translating AI insights into operational standards.

Location: On-site or remote; remote employment may not be available in all locations and the listed salary range applies across US locations.

Salary: $190,000–$234,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

What you will do

  • Develop the strategy and technical implementation for decomposing complex safety triage workflows and scaling their automation.
  • Define requirements for human-in-the-loop machine learning systems and high-quality human feedback.
  • Partner with Engineering to design, test, and deploy machine learning and generative AI models and tools.
  • Use AI-powered insights and traditional triage signals to identify emerging road issues, risk scenarios, and edge cases.
  • Author technical policies, standards, strategic roadmaps, and operational process blueprints.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on long-term technical and operational strategy.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or 7+ years of relevant experience in autonomous vehicle software quality operations or ML operations.
  • Experience managing complex technical projects and collaborating with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Systems Engineering.
  • Experience across the machine learning lifecycle, including data preparation, training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Experience with ML testing and validation, dataset quality assurance, bias detection, edge-case testing, and statistical performance evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of driving rules and regulations, with the ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

  • Technical undergraduate degree.
  • Experience in the autonomous vehicle space.
  • Experience with LLMs, transformer models, or machine learning for robotics.
  • SQL and data analysis skills.
  • Experience working with offshore teams or multiple local operations hubs.
