TL;DR
Industrial Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing): Developing and launching manufacturing systems for vehicle, battery, drive unit, casting, machining, engine, transmission, and fuel-cell programs with an accent on lean manufacturing, line balancing, standardized work, and plant integration. Focus on coordinating prototype-to-production launches, analyzing throughput and labor impacts, designing workstations and layouts, and solving ergonomic, safety, quality, and efficiency challenges.

Location: Warren, Michigan; hybrid with reporting to the specified location at least three times per week. Travel is required, with the posting stating up to 50% for the USA, Canada, Mexico, and abroad and later specifying less than 25%.

What you will do

  • Implement lean manufacturing systems and standardized work to achieve line balance, productivity, and program KPI targets.
  • Plan and track industrial engineering deliverables throughout launches from initial concept and prototypes through full production.
  • Coordinate manufacturing integration with engineering teams, suppliers, plant industrial engineering teams, and pre-production organizations.
  • Lead Plan For Every Part workshops covering process design, packaging, workstations, material delivery, tooling, and plant layouts.
  • Analyze production data and participate in throughput improvement, virtual build, and pre-production activities.
  • Support product manufacturability, ergonomic improvements, investment and labor studies, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or an equivalent related field.
  • At least 2 years of related industrial engineering experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Experience with standardized work and assembly line balance.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Office 365 applications, and AutoCAD.
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, and J-1 support.

Nice to have

  • Vehicle, powertrain, or propulsion development process experience.
  • Manufacturing plant experience and workstation materials procurement experience.
  • Experience with simulations, man-machine charts, indirect labor studies, financial tracking, ergonomics evaluations, value stream mapping, ROI studies, and layout development.
  • Project management skills and experience meeting tight deadlines.
