Principal Systems Engineer (Database Infrastructure)

Location: Remote, United States

Base salary: USD $160,200–$425,000 per year, plus potential bonus, stock, and other rewards depending on role eligibility.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction and multi-year architectural strategy for hirify.global's self-managed and cloud-managed database infrastructure.
• Own replication topology and failover automation, including primary and replica tiers, promotion, cross-region replication, and zonal and regional failover.
• Manage database infrastructure components, including kernel tuning, storage configuration, and compute and disk selection.
• Lead capacity planning, instance sizing, reserved-capacity strategy, and migrations to newer virtual machine and disk generations.
• Partner with application, platform, infrastructure, and security engineering teams to align the database roadmap with product needs.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and help evolve the database fleet onto Azure.

Requirements

• At least 11 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience; lower experience thresholds may apply with an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree.
• Proven experience maintaining and delivering production software in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Deep expertise in MySQL internals, including InnoDB, GTID, semi-synchronous replication, replication lag, connection pooling, query routing, and production performance diagnosis.
• Experience with production database sharding, including shard-key selection, cross-shard query costs, and resharding strategy.
• Strong production software development experience in Go, Python, Ruby, or Rust for systems-level tooling such as agents, daemons, and operational CLI tools.
• Experience with Azure or another major cloud provider, managed databases, and large-scale database infrastructure migrations.
