TL;DR
Airflow Reliability Engineer (Airflow/Kubernetes): Supporting customers running mission-critical managed Apache Airflow services with an accent on Airflow administration, data engineering, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure. Focus on troubleshooting complex distributed-system issues, optimizing Airflow configurations, identifying bugs, maintaining monitoring and alerting systems, and providing customer guidance within SLA and on-call requirements.

Location: Remote within the United States; Boston; New York City

Estimated total compensation: $125,000–$130,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Provide Apache Airflow expertise and white-glove technical guidance to customers using the managed Airflow service.
  • Investigate and solve complex Airflow problems, from configuration optimization to identifying previously unknown bugs.
  • Work directly with customer data engineers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and management to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Contribute feedback that influences the Apache Airflow project and spend up to 20% of time on side projects.
  • Develop or maintain internal monitoring and alerting systems and contribute to the open-source Airflow repository.
  • Support 24x7 coverage through a six-hour pager period during the workday and participate in paid weekend on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • Background in data engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience with Python.
  • At least 1 year of experience with Airflow administration and DAG creation.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, and distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and mentor junior team members.

Nice to have

  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Customer support experience.
  • Familiarity with SQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, or similar data engineering tools.
