TL;DR
Site Reliability Engineering Specialist (Network Reliability/Automation): Supporting and enhancing monitoring, tooling, virtualised environments, and automation pipelines for critical HMRC network services with an accent on resilience, operational performance, and system integration. Focus on resolving complex incidents, expanding network visibility, building scalable CI/CD automation, and improving reliability across mission-critical services.
Location: Birmingham, London or Sheffield, UK; hybrid model requiring attendance at the contractual location 3 days per week and 2 flexible days per week

What you will do
- Support and enhance network tooling applications across BT and customer estates.
- Configure, deploy and manage virtualised environments, including proactive troubleshooting and optimisation.
- Evaluate and introduce tooling capabilities to improve network visibility and monitoring coverage.
- Integrate systems through APIs and build scalable automation pipelines to reduce manual effort.
- Create technical documentation, deployment procedures and business cases aligned with internal quality frameworks.
- Resolve complex incidents and contribute to continuous improvement of critical HMRC network services.
Requirements
- Understanding of ITIL practices and incident management in a live support environment.
- Experience with Windows Server or Linux and virtualised environments such as VMware.
- Ability to create clear documentation for deployment, tooling and CI/CD automation.
- Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, SQL, PowerShell, REST/SOAP APIs, GitLab and Ansible.
- Experience integrating services and building end-to-end automation pipelines.
- Must hold or be eligible for SC Security Clearance, requiring at least 5 years of UK work history for eligibility.

- Experience with platforms such as ServiceNow.
- Detailed documentation of deployment and automation best practices.
