TL;DR
Level Design Director (Game Development): Directing level design for action RPG or action-adventure games, translating core mechanics and systems into quests, worlds, puzzles, and combat encounters with an accent on design vision, pacing, and player-facing content. Focus on leading level designers, maintaining design standards, aligning content with game pillars, and solving cross-discipline production challenges.
Location: UK-based role with regular studio attendance on an in-studio or hybrid basis; relocation support to Nottingham, UK is available if required.

What you will do
- Establish and communicate the gameβs design vision across locations, quests, mechanics, and player-facing content.
- Lead the level design department and develop Lead Level Designers through feedback, mentoring, and training strategies.
- Provide hands-on direction and create benchmark content, including quest design, world building, puzzle design, and combat encounters.
- Review and prioritise level design work in line with game pillars, studio philosophies, scope, and production constraints.
- Maintain level design documentation, standards, and best practices.
- Collaborate with design, production, project management, and other department directors to resolve challenges and deliver high-quality game content.
Requirements
- Must work from the UK and be able to attend the studio regularly.
- At least four published AAA or critically acclaimed AA games, including at least one Director or Associate Director role.
- Experience in the Action RPG or Action-Adventure genre.
- At least five years of experience leading a team and directing content, ideally with Unreal Engine 5.
- Deep knowledge of pacing, player mechanics, gameplay systems, immersive sandbox games, and holistic design.
- Excellent communication, vision-setting, pragmatic decision-making, and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
