Fire Protection Engineer

Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States. Must be local or willing to relocate to Virginia Beach, VA. This is an onsite position working side-by-side with staff in the Virginia Beach office.

What you will do

• Perform fire protection engineering services including life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm and mass notification design, performance-based engineering, smoke control design, and computer modeling under the direction of a senior consultant.
• Develop plans, specifications, inspection reports, and other technical documentation in accordance with professional service standards.
• Assist with design problem resolution through field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, checking design computations, and coordinating project design aspects.
• Identify applicable codes and standards and conduct building code, egress, fire detection and alarm, smoke control, fire sprinkler, and water supply reviews.
• Perform engineering calculations, hydraulic calculations, fire hazard analyses, and dust hazard analyses.
• Communicate effectively with project team members, clients, managers, and the general public; perform CAD document preparation or production as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher and 2–8 years of related experience.
• Effective written and oral communication skills for reports, business correspondence, presentations, procedure manuals, and responses to questions from managers, clients, and the general public.
• Strong interest in or experience with fire protection and a passion for fire code safety and exceeding client expectations.
• Must be local to Virginia Beach, VA or willing to relocate there; the role is not remote.
