TL;DR
Editor I: Psychology (Academic Publishing): Commissioning and managing academic and professional psychology books across research methods, introductory psychology, and comparative psychology with an accent on market-led publishing, author relationships, and cross-functional editorial coordination. Focus on meeting commissioning and revenue targets, managing manuscript-to-publication schedules, and developing the Psychology list strategy.
Location: Hybrid, with at least three days per week in person at Milton Park, Oxfordshire, or London Blackfriars; candidates must live within a commutable distance and have the right to live and work in the UK.
Salary: £39,410 per year plus a 10% bonus.

What you will do
- Commission new academic and professional books and new editions in psychology research methods, introductory psychology, and comparative psychology.
- Manage the frontlist program and coordinate manuscript submission, production, and publishing deadlines.
- Meet annual commissioning, publishing, and revenue goals based on market needs.
- Build relationships with academic and professional authors through virtual and in-person events in the UK and overseas.
- Collaborate with editorial, digital, production, marketing, rights, sales, and global Psychology teams.
- Contribute to product development and the strategy of the Psychology publishing list.
Requirements
- Previous experience commissioning books in academic publishing and familiarity with the academic book publishing process.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of textbook, research, and professional publishing markets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, networking, organisation, and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to budget, analyse financial data, and work with spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing tools.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and resolve conflicts with internal stakeholders.
- Right to live and work in the UK and availability to work in person at least three days per week.

- Experience working with a varied range of product types and professional or academic authors.
- Knowledge of current market trends and competitor activity in psychology publishing.
