Senior Software Engineer (Storage)

Location: Hybrid, with presence in the San Francisco, San Jose, or Bellevue office 4 days per week; Tuesday is the designated work-from-home day.

Salary: $296,000–$395,000 annually in San Francisco or San Jose; $266,000–$356,000 annually in Bellevue.

What you will do

• Design and build a vendor-agnostic control plane for provisioning, scaling, healing, and metering storage across multiple platforms.
• Define an abstraction layer for vendor-specific APIs, failure semantics, quality-of-service controls, and telemetry.
• Build reconciliation loops, Kubernetes controllers, operators, and custom schedulers for capacity, tenancy, encryption, and placement management.
• Implement multi-tenant isolation, quality-of-service controls, credential and key lifecycle management, and noisy-neighbor detection.
• Design capacity and placement engines that account for PCIe topology, NUMA, failure domains, GPUs, and data-center availability zones.
• Define SLI/SLOs, detect fleet-wide performance regressions, and build observability pipelines for large-scale storage infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience for storage systems.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts including load balancing, data durability, consensus algorithms, fault tolerance, and data consistency.
• Strong programming skills in C, C++, Go, or Python, plus Linux kernel internals and system-level programming experience.
• Experience with storage protocols such as S3 or NFS and file systems such as Ceph, DAOS, or similar.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and QA practices for distributed systems in production.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI/ML workloads, storage performance tuning, data-center networking, InfiniBand, RoCE, GPUs, or DPUs.
• Production experience with VAST Data, WEKA, DDN, Pure, NetApp, IBM Storage Scale, or large-scale Ceph deployments.
• Knowledge of CXL memory pooling, computational storage, ZNS SSDs, or EDSFF.
• Research publications or conference presentations in storage, systems, networking, or high-performance computing.
