Software Engineer (Testing Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, Montreal, New York, or Toronto

Salary: $165,000–$330,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Define Baseten's end-to-end testing strategy, standards, testing tiers, and shared tooling.
• Build and maintain unit, integration, load, performance, and resilience testing frameworks.
• Design infrastructure for realistic ephemeral test environments with Kubernetes namespaces and containerized dependencies.
• Develop chaos testing capabilities covering fault injection, network failures, latency, pod and node failures, and dependency degradation.
• Improve test-suite reliability and CI performance through flake management, test impact analysis, selective execution, and parallelization.
• Create test observability, project templates, shared libraries, and platform capabilities used across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Go and/or Python, with experience building test tooling and libraries for other engineers.
• Deep knowledge of testing frameworks and their internals, including pytest, Go's testing package, testify, testcontainers, or equivalents.
• Experience designing integration-test infrastructure for distributed systems, including ephemeral environment provisioning and dependency management.
• Practical experience with load and performance testing tools such as k6, Locust, Vegeta, JMeter, or Gatling.
• Solid Kubernetes and Docker fundamentals, plus advanced understanding of CI/CD for fast, deterministic, and trustworthy test suites.
• Experience improving testing practices and working independently on ambiguous, high-impact infrastructure challenges.
