TL;DR
Software Engineer, Desktop (AI): Building native and web-based Claude desktop applications for macOS and Windows with an accent on TypeScript, React, Electron, and native systems integration. Focus on optimizing cross-platform performance, designing secure update and deployment pipelines, and exploring how advanced LLMs can augment desktop workflows.
Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid attendance in one of the offices at least 25% of the time is currently expected.
Salary: $320,000–$485,000 USD annually.

What you will do
- Develop core infrastructure and features for Claude.ai and the Electron-based desktop application using TypeScript and React.
- Integrate native Rust, Swift, and C++ code with macOS and Windows capabilities.
- Optimize application performance, memory usage, and startup time across platforms.
- Design update mechanisms, deployment pipelines, and cross-platform packaging and distribution systems.
- Build monitoring tools for application performance and user experience.
- Explore practical applications of advanced LLMs in desktop workflows with engineering, research, and product teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on desktop application development.
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills and experience with modern frontend frameworks.
- Practical Electron experience and a deep understanding of its architecture, or strong experience with comparable Chromium-based systems.
- Experience with native module development in C++, and familiarity with macOS and/or Windows technologies.
- Experience with cross-platform packaging, code signing, distribution, IPC, and desktop application security.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.
Nice to have
- Experience building operating systems, browsers, game engines, or deeply OS-integrated software.
- Experience integrating AI or ML models and understanding their capabilities.
- Experience implementing cross-platform development strategies.
- Vision for AI-powered desktop applications and experience with IPC and security.
