Senior Software Engineer (Developer Infrastructure)

Location: Reykjavík office with an office-centric hybrid schedule; standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Working from home on Wednesdays is generally available, while Fridays depend on the work and partner teams.

Estimated monthly base salary: 1,200,000–1,500,000 ISK, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and improve development sandboxes, build systems, and developer experience tooling.
• Lead developer infrastructure projects from technical design through implementation, rollout, and operation.
• Partner with engineering teams to identify opportunities to accelerate development and delivery.
• Analyze complex infrastructure systems, diagnose root causes, and drive improvements.
• Track open-source trends and evaluate technologies that improve development infrastructure.
• Promote code quality, reliable engineering practices, and maintainable infrastructure.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally focused on backend systems or infrastructure.
• Experience working in large codebases and shipping production systems.
• Familiarity with build tooling and automated testing, plus an interest in distributed systems.
• Ability to work across complex codebases and infrastructure stacks while exercising autonomous technical judgment.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration and alignment across engineering teams.
• Interest in AI-assisted engineering tools and emerging technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience designing, building, or operating infrastructure on AWS or another major cloud platform.
