Backend AI Developer

Location: Hybrid in Porto, Portugal

What you will do

• Design and build Java-based APIs and microservices for mobility products.
• Develop backend services that run reliably at scale in production.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, Claude Code, or similar in daily engineering work.
• Write automated unit and integration tests for backend systems.
• Understand functional and business needs before designing technical solutions.
• Collaborate across priorities while experimenting with responsible AI-native development practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on backend development experience.
• Strong Java experience; Quarkus is a plus.
• Experience designing APIs and Java microservices for production environments.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills required.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM integrations, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, or agent orchestration workflows.
• Familiarity with MCP or similar integrations connecting AI assistants to internal systems.
• Experience with spec-driven development, custom prompt or skill libraries, and automation workflows.
