What you will do
- Create complex, artistically appealing hairstyles, grooms, and surfacing for human, furry, and feathered characters, props, and production elements.
- Develop hair shading and lookdev while following art direction and the established production pipeline.
- Contribute to the development of departmental tools, techniques, and technical workflows.
- Stay current with relevant artistic methodologies, technology trends, and production tools.
- Support colleagues through guidance and instruction that contribute to artistic and professional growth.
- Collaborate with supervisors and production to solve problems, prioritize work, meet quality standards, and deliver on schedule.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in VFX or animation, including 3+ years in animation.
- Strong understanding of grooming, surfacing, rendering, and simulation workflows.
- Consistent ability to produce high-quality grooms and deliver work on schedule.
- Strong knowledge of Houdini and grooming and surfacing tools, including Maya, xGen, Yeti, Shave and Haircut, Mari, Substance, Arnold, or RenderMan.
- Ability to work within art direction, pipeline, and supervisor guidance while collaborating with production.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of CFX and simulation tools such as nHair, Carbon, or Vellum.
- Knowledge of Python or C/C++, VEX, and Houdini HDA creation.
- High English proficiency.
- Spanish proficiency.
