Staff Counsellor (Mental Health)

Location: Kabul, Afghanistan; duty station-based international professional position with mobility and humanitarian deployment requirements.

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of a staff mental health and psychosocial support programme aligned with hirify.global’s Duty of Care framework.
• Provide confidential individual and group counselling, psychosocial support, leadership consultation, and team interventions for personnel and eligible dependents.
• Conduct psychosocial risk assessments and develop organizational wellbeing, resilience, prevention, and early-intervention initiatives.
• Act as the technical lead for psychosocial preparedness and response during emergencies, security incidents, evacuations, and organizational transitions.
• Advise senior management on workforce wellbeing, psychological safety, organizational resilience, and staff care strategies.
• Coordinate with Security, People and Culture, Medical Services, peer support volunteers, and external specialists.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in psychology, counselling, social work, organizational behavior, behavioral science, occupational health, or a related mental health profession.
• At least 8 years of national and international professional experience in staff support, counselling, employee wellbeing, psychosocial risk management, organizational development, or related areas.
• Experience providing psychological support and critical incident stress management in emergency, conflict, fragile, or high-stress environments.
• Experience advising senior managers and leadership teams and designing training on resilience, stress management, mental health awareness, and psychological safety.
• Strong background in crisis intervention, risk assessment, leadership coaching, burnout, secondary trauma, and compassion fatigue.
• Fluency in English is required.

Nice to have

• Training or certification in staff support, traumatic or critical incident stress, employee assistance programmes, substance abuse, family counselling, coaching, or stress management.
• Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or a local language.
• Experience in the UN system, international development, humanitarian aid, developing countries, fragile settings, or emergency contexts.
