Economic and Data Analyst (Low-Carbon Energy): Delivering quantitative economic and data analysis for industry and government clients shaping low-carbon energy policy and net-zero investment decisions with an accent on cost-benefit analysis, policy impact assessment, scenario modelling, and economic appraisal. Focus on cleaning and analysing datasets, developing industry and policy scenarios, building evidence-based recommendations, and communicating complex findings to senior policymakers and industry leaders.
Location: Birmingham or London office, with hybrid working; regular time in either office is expected.

What you will do
- Deliver economic and data analysis for industry and government clients working on low-carbon energy policy and the net-zero transition.
- Complete cost-benefit analysis, policy impact assessments, scenario modelling, and financial or economic appraisals.
- Assess commercial, economic, and environmental criteria across policy options, business models, and low-carbon technologies including hydrogen, heat pumps, and biofuels.
- Develop future industry and policy scenarios to inform investment decisions and resource allocation.
- Collate, clean, and analyse datasets using coding and data tools, potentially including AI-enabled modelling tools.
- Communicate evidence, methods, and recommendations clearly to senior policymakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders through reports and presentations.
Requirements
- Graduate or postgraduate degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, a quantitatively focused social science, or another numerate discipline.
- Strong numerical and analytical capability, including the ability to structure complex problems and apply economic judgement.
- Clear written, verbal, and numerical communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics accessibly.
- Ability to work collaboratively in project teams and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Capability across Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for economic analysis and modelling.
- Analyst-level profile with up to three years of work experience; Python or other data analysis skills beyond Excel are likely to be useful.
Nice to have
- Advanced understanding of economics or econometrics.
- Experience with energy, utilities, environmental policy, or regulation.
- Experience with project management or client-facing work.
- Experience building economic or financial models in Excel and completing econometric analysis.
- Understanding of UK politics and the UK political environment, or exposure to tools such as Power BI and Rust.
