What you will do

• Lead a 3-5 person engineering team, authoring Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and setting coding standards.
• Design and build integration layers and versioned API contracts between enterprise systems with differing data models.
• Develop robust production code across a mixed Python (Django) and Java codebase.
• Optimize event-driven processing pipelines using AWS (Fargate, Lambda, S3, RDS, SNS/SQS) and Terraform.
• Implement Content-Addressable Storage architectures and manage CI/CD pipelines via Jenkins and SonarQube.
• Develop search indexing for content discovery and metadata querying using Solr and Elasticsearch.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in information system design, complex software development, and large-scale database management.
• Production experience with Python (Django) and Java within a mixed architecture.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with Content-Addressable Storage (e.g., Fedora Repository, OCFL, S3 content-hash).
• Proficiency in Solr or Elasticsearch and frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
• Ability to support core business hours: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM ET and complete Library of Congress IT security training.

Nice to have

• Prior delivery on Library of Congress contracts under Library SDLC standards.
• Experience with digital preservation concepts (OAIS, PREMIS, METS) and fixity validation.
• Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks such as TypeScript, React, or Angular.
• Experience modernizing CI/CD tooling, such as migrating from Jenkins to GitLab CI/CD.
