TL;DR
Database Engineer (SQL Server): Managing and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server production infrastructure with an accent on system reliability, performance tuning, and operational excellence. Focus on automating database operations using PowerShell, resolving complex production incidents, and ensuring high availability at scale.
Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Salary: $110,700 – $171,800 USD per year

What you will do
- Own the health, stability, and reliability of SQL Server production environments.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues including slow queries, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.
- Build and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure high availability and minimize downtime.
- Manage backup/restore processes, disaster recovery planning, and HA solutions (Always On, replication).
- Develop automation using PowerShell and SQL Server tooling to reduce manual intervention.
- Collaborate with application engineers to support production database usage and improve query efficiency.
Requirements
- Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in production environments.
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL (tuning, stored procedures) and PowerShell scripting.
- Experience with SQL Server performance tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
- Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call production support rotation.
Nice to have
- Experience with automation platforms (e.g., Ansible) and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog).
- Exposure to SQL Server HA/DR (Always On, replication, clustering).
- Cloud exposure with AWS or GCP.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub and use of AI/code assistant tools for automation.
