Forward Deployed Engineer (Data, ML & AI): Building production-grade data pipelines, machine learning systems, and agentic AI solutions directly within customer environments with an accent on architectural modernization and LLMOps. Focus on refactoring legacy data estates into modern lakehouses and deploying custom GenAI/RAG workflows to drive business velocity.

Location: Remote (NA/Eastern timezone), based in Toronto, Ontario

Compensation: 160K - 180K CAD / year

What you will do

• Embed within customer environments to lead the end-to-end delivery of data discovery, schema design, and model integration.
• Modernize legacy technology estates by refactoring monolithic SQL databases and ETL jobs into modern lakehouses and event-driven systems.
• Apply Spec-Driven Development (SDD) using GenAI tools to generate production data models, PySpark jobs, and test suites.
• Architect and deploy GenAI workflows, RAG pipelines, and autonomous AI agents using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or DSPy.
• Build and maintain robust MLOps orchestration pipelines using tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, or Dagster.
• Elevate customer teams by establishing reusable agentic development patterns and data reliability frameworks.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer, Lead ML Engineer, or Enterprise Data Architect.
• Strong executive presence and communication skills for direct interfacing with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Mastery of distributed computing (AWS Glue, Spark, Databricks) and modern data warehouses (Redshift, Snowflake, dbt).
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning, evaluating, and deploying LLMs, embedding models, and vector stores.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, plus fluency in at least two other languages (e.g., Scala, Go, Rust, TypeScript).
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites as needed.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in Forward Deployed Engineering or technical consulting roles.
• Experience migrating on-premise Hadoop or legacy data warehouses to cloud lakehouses.
• Deep understanding of data governance and security compliance (HIPAA, SOC2, GDPR).
