TL;DR
Sensor Integration Engineer (Robotics): Building multi-sensor recording systems for autonomous defence platforms with an accent on hardware integration, ROS2, calibration, and high-performance embedded data pipelines. Focus on synchronizing and unifying camera, lidar, radar, and IMU streams, optimizing NVIDIA Jetson recording systems, and deploying them during field data-collection campaigns across Europe.
Location: Munich, Germany. Regular travel across Europe and outdoor field campaigns are required.
Company
is a defence technology company developing software-defined, scalable unmanned systems for NATO Allies and their partners.
What you will do
- Own end-to-end integration of EO/IR cameras, gimbals, lidar, radar, IMU, and GNSS sensor suites.
- Develop sensor drivers and ROS2 nodes using hardware interfaces and communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN, Serial, MIPI/CSI-2, GigE Vision, and Ethernet.
- Implement temporal synchronization and intrinsic and extrinsic calibration for multi-sensor fusion.
- Build and optimize embedded recording pipelines on NVIDIA Jetson using GStreamer, MCAP, and rosbag.
- Evaluate sensors hands-on, diagnose hardware and software issues, and make integration decisions.
- Deploy and operate recording systems during European field campaigns and produce reproducible documentation and calibration reports.
Requirements
- Degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable practical experience.
- Proficiency in Python and C++ for robotics and hardware interfacing.
- Experience with ROS2 on physical systems and hands-on sensor integration on embedded Linux platforms.
- Experience with hardware protocols and diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Strong computer vision fundamentals, including camera models, distortion, projection geometry, OpenCV, coordinate frames, transformations, and time synchronization.
- Willingness to travel regularly for field campaigns and work outdoors in varied conditions.
Nice to have
- UAV or mobile robot experience, including PX4, ArduPilot, or MAVLink.
- GStreamer, JetPack/L4T, CUDA/TensorRT, MIPI/CSI-2, ISP tuning, or Linux kernel and device-tree experience.
- Photogrammetry, 3D reconstruction, lidar and point-cloud processing, or calibration tools such as Kalibr.
- Experience with computer vision models, simulation, or synthetic data generation.
Culture & Benefits
- Work on deployable autonomous systems with direct impact on European defence technology.
- Join a scaling Data Operations team with ownership across the full data lifecycle.
- Scope and seniority are matched to the candidate's experience, from several years of robotics work to a decade of sensor integration.
- Critical thinking, grit, practical problem-solving, and continuous learning are valued over an exact checklist match.
- Regular field deployments provide hands-on work with real systems and operating conditions.
