Lead Scientist I (Chemistry)

What you will do

• Design and execute complex chemical reaction workflows across synthetic chemistry, biocatalysis, and process development.
• Develop screening strategies and optimize reaction kinetics, selectivity, yield, robustness, reproducibility, and scalability.
• Translate scientific questions into structured experimental plans suitable for automation and closed-loop experimentation.
• Collaborate with automation and robotic engineers to develop automated reaction-screening protocols and digital laboratory workflows.
• Work with data scientists to interpret experimental data, refine predictive models, and create model-ready datasets.
• Collaborate across chemistry, engineering, data, platform, global R&D, and external partner teams while mentoring junior scientists.

Requirements

• PhD in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with significant experience.
• Strong expertise in synthetic chemistry, process chemistry, or biocatalysis workflows.
• Proven experience in reaction design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with data-driven experimentation, including Design of Experiments and statistical methods.
• Strong understanding of data structures, traceability, and experimental documentation.
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary environments with automation and data teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with automated or high-throughput experimentation platforms.
• Familiarity with digital laboratory systems, ELN/LIMS, or data pipelines.
• Exposure to modelling, machine learning, or AI-driven chemistry workflows.
• Industrial experience in pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, or advanced materials.
