Counsel (Fintech)

TL;DR

Counsel (Fintech): Advising dispute resolution, core payment products, and commercial services with an accent on product counseling, risk and compliance, and complex agreement negotiation. Focus on leading cross-functional legal reviews, coordinating global stakeholders, and solving challenging product, regulatory, and commercial matters.

Location: Foster City, California, US; hybrid work with at least 3 days in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $198,800–$318,100 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Advise dispute resolution, product, technology, and commercial teams on business objectives, product development, and service offerings.
• Provide practical legal counseling focused on risk, compliance, and business needs.
• Draft, negotiate, and complete complex commercial agreements while supporting relationships after execution.
• Lead legal reviews and approvals for product marketing, public relations materials, presentations, and other external-facing content.
• Coordinate subject-matter experts and regional legal teams on global matters.
• Develop guidelines, templates, policies, and process improvements to increase legal efficiency.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of relevant work experience; 8+ years of relevant legal experience is preferred.
• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to a bar in good standing or eligibility for registered in-house counsel in the state where the role is located.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, analytical, client counseling, project management, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to understand technical aspects and use cases of software-based products and provide business-oriented advice to product, technical, and commercial stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; litigation experience is welcome.

• Experience with payments disputes or in payments, financial services, technology, or fintech industries.
• Advanced degree or additional relevant experience.
