Associate Director, Applied Data Science & Modelling (AI/ML)

Location: Visp, Switzerland. Office-first hybrid role, primarily based in the office with remote work permitted for 20% of the time. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families.

What you will do

• Lead AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data science solutions for scientific and operational challenges.
• Partner with R&D scientists and Advanced Synthesis stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable digital solutions.
• Design predictive models, optimization tools, and decision-support systems.
• Collaborate with data engineering, digital, and technical teams to deliver solutions from concept through deployment.
• Evaluate emerging AI/ML methodologies and establish scalable standards and frameworks.
• Mentor colleagues and support the growth of digital and data science capabilities.

Requirements

• PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, AI/ML, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioconjugation, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Industry experience in data science, AI/ML, computational sciences, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, pharma, biotech, CDMO, or a similar environment.
• Advanced expertise in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science with demonstrated business impact.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
• Experience developing end-to-end data science solutions from exploration and modelling through deployment and adoption.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders.

Nice to have

• Experience in bioconjugation, MLOps, digital transformation, or scientific workflow optimization.
