Sr. Associate Counsel (Payments)

TL;DR

Sr. Associate Counsel (Payments): Advising on commercial, regulatory, product, marketing, sourcing, and money movement matters across the CEMEA region with an accent on contract strategy, legal risk assessment, and technology-enabled legal operations. Focus on drafting and negotiating complex agreements, monitoring regulatory developments, and using AI tools to streamline legal processes in a fast-paced multinational environment.

Location: Hybrid in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with at least three days in the office each week. Some travel may be required.

What you will do

• Act as a primary legal advisor for value-added services, products, marketing, commercial and money movement, and sourcing matters across CEMEA.
• Advise business teams on solution structuring, legislative requirements, regulatory assessments, new products, services, and contracting strategies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements while developing and adapting regional templates and standard documents.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on business initiatives.
• Coordinate outside counsel and collaborate with global, regional, and functional stakeholders on strategic projects.
• Improve, automate, and standardize legal processes, contracting routines, and external communications.

Requirements

• Law degree and qualification permitting in-house legal practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
• At least five years of post-qualification experience at an international law firm or multinational organization.
• Strong commercial legal skills, including contract drafting, contract review, negotiation, and legal assessments.
• Excellent written and verbal English.
• Skilled daily user of AI tools, including legal technology.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and collaborate across functions and stakeholder levels.
