Compensation: Founder-level stipend during the six-month studio build programme plus significant founding tech lead equity with standard vesting.

What you will do

• Define the initial technology stack and architecture for a deployable clinical platform.
• Integrate sensing, edge computing, hardware, firmware, and data synchronization layers.
• Build resilient systems for intermittent connectivity and constrained power environments.
• Deliver functional prototypes for clinical pilots and investor demonstrations.
• Ensure alignment with medical-device regulations, data protection standards, and quality-management frameworks.
• Recruit and lead the initial engineering team while partnering with the founder and CEO on product direction, pilots, and fundraising materials.

Requirements

• Track record of shipping real products from prototype to practical use across hardware and software.
• Strong depth in embedded systems, firmware, sensors and signal acquisition, edge computing, or connected-device architecture.
• Experience in a regulated or safety-critical domain such as health-tech, medical devices, defence, or a comparable field.
• Pragmatic approach to build-versus-buy decisions, rapid delivery, and ambiguity at pre-seed stage.
• Founder mindset with the ability to work with clinical users and investors, hire engineers, and take ownership with equity.
• Willingness and ability to undergo UK government security vetting if not already holding UKSV clearance.

Nice to have

• Advanced AI/ML expertise for on-device inference or sensor fusion.
• Experience as a founding engineer or early startup employee.
• Exposure to clinical, pre-hospital, emergency, humanitarian, or field-operations environments.
• Experience manufacturing and certifying hardware.
• Existing UKSV security clearance.
